Nature enthusiasts love visiting the Dolomites, or Dolmiti in Italian, located in northeastern Italy. The Dolomites are known for their majestic peaks, jagged pinnacles, icy glaciers, sheer rock faces, deep gorges, and World War I history. This region is recognized widely for having the most attractive mountain landscapes in the world. In 2009, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

You can expect to walk roughly 5-7 miles with ascent and descents of 2000-3000 vertical feet/day. What to Expect
Pre-Trip Support
You’ll work closely with an Alpenwild trip specialist who can answer any questions you may have leading up to your trip. The tour begins in Venice. We recommend planning some extra days to visit this beautiful city on the water. If you need help arranging additional hotel nights, just let your trip specialist know. They can reserve those for you or provide recommendations if you prefer to book on your own.
Hotels
We have you staying in 3 and 4-star hotels with your own private room and bath each night. In the middle of your tour, you’ll spend a night up at a remote mountain hotel that offers 360-degree views (picture above).
Tre Cime di Lavredo
The first day of hiking is a circuit around the Tre Cime di Lavredo (3 peaks of Lavaredo) an iconic peak formation in the Dolomites. Everything about the hike is beautiful. You get fantastic views of the rock formations, high mountain peaks, and wildflowers. It’s easily the most tourist-packed trail of the entire trip, but it’s worth the visit!
WWI Tunnels Excursion
During World War I, the Lagazuoi mountain was in the central section of the Dolomites front, where the Italian troops and the Austrian Soldiers confronted each other. You will get the opportunity to walk through a WWI tunnel and through some reconstructed trenches. As you’re walking through the tunnels there are several look-out points that overlook the valley.
Following the tunnel excursion, if weather permits, the guide will take the group up the cable car to the Rifugio Lagazuoi. It’s the highest mountain huts in the Dolomites with a panoramic terrace. From the Rifugio, the group will walk along a well-paved path to the top of Lagazuoi, which also offers amazing views at a height of 9,301 feet.
Rifugio lunches
Throughout your trip, you will dine at local family-owned restaurants. Most days, you will hike up to a local rifugio for lunch; these rifugios offer hearty and wholesome dishes. Be sure to order the kaiserschmarrn or apple strudel for dessert! With all the hiking you’ll do, it’s well deserved, which makes it taste that much better.
Prosecco Tasting
The tour concludes with a private prosecco tasting at a small family-owned vineyard. The owner will walk you through the process of how each bottle of prosecco you taste was made and how it differs in uniqueness. You will get the chance to purchase your favorites to give to friends/family or even keep for yourself. ?
