How to Start Planning Your Self-Guided Alps Tour

A self-guided tour gives you ultimate flexibility. You select the dates, pick the destination, choose your travel companions, and enjoy all the freedom with none of the planning. There’s no hit and miss. We craft each self-guided itinerary as a custom experience, designed to fit your individual interests and abilities.

 Getting Started

Let’s talk about the process of planning a self-guided trip. It’s really pretty simple. It starts with a quick email or phone call to connect with an Alpenwild Destination Specialist. Maybe you already know exactly what you want to do (Haute Route, perhaps?). But if not, they’ll ask you a few questions:

  • When do you want to travel?
  • How many days do you want to stay?
  • How many people are traveling?
  • Where do you want to go?
  • How active a trip do you want? Easy? Moderate? Strenuous?
  • Do you want a guided or self-guided trip?

The Alpenwild Destination Specialist is not a commissioned sales agent. Their only objective is to match you with the trip that’s perfect for you. If a guided trip is what you want, review our Tour Calendar on the website and find a trip and departure date that’s right for you. If you don’t see a guided trip or departure date that works for you, then you’ll want to consider a self-guided trip.

Your Self-Guided Itinerary

Following this initial consultation, we’ll send you a draft itinerary. This is a trip proposal and price quote showing where you’ll be going and what you’ll be doing each day. We specify exactly what’s included and what’s not included. You’ll find that no other self-guided tour offers so much.

Feel free to take this self-guided proposal and call us with questions, or discuss changes you want to make. We can easily adjust and adapt the itinerary to make this your dream vacation. Once the itinerary is exactly as you want it, and once you fall in love with the itinerary, then you can make a small deposit to lock in the tour price and guarantee the space. By working in advance, we normally have no trouble confirming your first choice of accommodations.

Everything You Need in One Place

About 30 days prior to departure you’ll receive your travel documents, including rail passes, hotel confirmations, and a detailed daily itinerary. You’ll have all the information you need to start your adventure with confidence.

So see?—You can do this. You can look forward to a vacation knowing every detail is taken care of.

I have been lucky to have had my parents grow up in Whitby, leading to fantastic family holidays and weekend breaks to the charming seaside town. Many of my childhood memories of Morocco tours Whitby consist of fishing, crabbing and fossiling. Whitby has recently become very well known due to national press exposure and been rated the best UK day break in 2008.
